Middlescapes

The Middlescapes are all based on aerial and satellite photography of largely agricultural areas around the world. Scouring the globe for interesting drawings on the earth, I recreate and interpret the most interesting ones in wall-mounted assemblages constructed from old packing pallets.

Because of the beautiful geometric compositions into which fields are often divided, farmlands generally yield the best results. The colors and textures of the pallet wood enhance the histories of labor and weather that both the farms and pallets share without sacrificing abstraction for minutiae.

Ultimately, my interests are surface and composition, combining the geometric simplicity of minimalism with the personal energy of expressionism.
